New Hub Job Opportunity!

The Department of Physics at the University of York seeks to appoint a Research Associate to support research related to Twin-Field Quantum Key Distribution (TF-QKD), as part of a project funded by the Quantum Communications Hub.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic researcher with a proven track record of publications. Their role will be primarily to support the research related to Twin-Field Quantum Key Distribution (TF-QKD) in collaboration with colleagues and students working on the same project. TF-QKD is a new form of QKD introduced in 2018 that dramatically increases the QKD transmission range by means of an intermediate repeating station. The scheme can be realised with current technology and several experiments have been performed already over record-breaking distances up to 600 km in optical fibre.

The new research associate will conduct research in labs in a brand new building specifically equipped for TF-QKD and will collaborate with the thriving quantum community in York, which counts world-renowned researchers from the York-led Quantum Communications Hub and from the York Centre for Quantum Technologies, an interdisciplinary centre that includes activities in the departments of Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Mathematics and Physics.

The position is full time and is for a fixed term of up to 24 months.

Closing date: 3 September 2021
